Mediation Services

Mediation ...

is a process in which a neutral third party facilitates open, honest and direct

communication between two or more individuals or groups in an effort to help

resolve a problem, conflict or dispute. When done well, mediation can be an

extrememly beneficial and educational process for everyone involved. However, the

first and most important element for a successful mediation is a willingness to

engage in the mediation process.

Who Can Benefit from Mediation?

Are you having a problem with...

If you and any of the above individuals/groups are in conflict, then mediation may

be a viable process for resolving that conflict. Mediation facilitates open dialogue

between the parties in conflict; often, this open dialogue is helpful. In this way, all

those involved are aware of the other's concerns and conflicts. Once this openness

is created, the individuals/groups in conflict can work collaboratively towards a

mutually beneficial solution.

How Does it Work?

If mediation seems right for you, or if you would like to speak with someone in more

detail, simply contact the Office of Student Standards by phone, email or by making

an appointment. You will be engaged in a conversation regarding your situation and

the viability of the mediation process for your specific circumstances. After

discussing your options, if you would like to pursue mediation the process will be

reviewed and a plan of action implemented - all collaboratively.

Conflict is inevitable; it's what people do once the conflict arises that makes the

difference. Often, these conflicts do not disappear; you must help resolve them by

taking an active effort. We can help!
