Spring Break Closing Procedures

Residence Halls

Residence halls will close on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 12:00P (noon).

Residence halls will re-open no sooner than Sunday, March 19, 2017 at 12:00P (noon).

Procedures for:
Columbia, Elwell, Luzerne, Lycoming, Montour, Northumberland and Schuylkill Halls

Before you leave for Spring Break make sure that:

  1. Trash is emptied.
  2. Windows are closed and locked.
  3. Window shades are pulled down.
  4. Lights are turned off.
  5. Nothing is left "on" except for refrigerators.
  6. Elwell Hall residents must leave the heat on and set at 68°.

Please Note: Your room will be checked by a Residence Life staff member when the building closes.


Apartment Complexes

Apartment communities will close on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 12:00P (noon).

Apartment communities will re-open no sooner than Sunday, March 19, 2017 at 12:00P (noon).

Procedures for:
Jessica Kozloff, Kile, Montgomery Place, Mt. Olympus and Trinity House Apartments

Before you leave for Spring Break, you must do the following:

  1. Empty trash from all rooms.
  2. Close and lock windows.
  3. Make sure all window shades/blinds are closed.
  4. Lock bedroom doors.
  5. Make sure water is not dripping from faucets and that all toilets have stopped filling with water.
  6. Turn off all lights to save energy.
  7. Leave the heat on and set at 68°.
    • If the heat is not left on, pipes may freeze and burst and the residents of your apartment will be held responsible for damages.
  8. Absolutely no air conditioning should be used at this point in the semester.
  9. Make sure the front door is shut tightly.

Important reminders:

  1. All University apartment communities will close on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 12:00P (noon) and re-open on Sunday, March 19, 2017 at 12:00P (noon). There will be no mail delivery during this time.
  2. For safety purposes, if you are staying in your apartment over Spring Break, you must notify us by completing the interim housing form. Your name and apartment number will be forwarded to the University Police who will be conducting rounds while the University is closed. Once this form is completed, your roommates will be notified of your intent to stay and any guests that you may have. You will not be permitted to have guests if your roommates object.
  3. During this time, if you have any problems, maintenance concerns, or an emergency please contact the on-call staff person at 570-336-8551 or BUPD at 570-389-4168.
  4. If you do not let us know you will be staying, and lights are on in your apartment, BUPD will enter the apartment to investigate.
  5. Fire alarm testing and maintenance projects will be occurring over break. Maintenance staff and BUPD will be entering all apartments.
