Elwell Hall Renovation Project »

The renovation project to Elwell Hall began in April of 2011. When completed in 2013 the renovations will feature:

  • New freestanding furniture, vinyl tile flooring, window shades and new doors in all student rooms
  • Individually controlled heating and air conditioning in all student rooms
  • All bathrooms totally remodeled
  • New lounge space on each floor
  • New carpeting in hallways
  • A new front entrance and lobby to include additional study/meeting areas
  • New elevators

Student rooms and bathrooms on the East side of Elwell were completed during the Summer of 2011 with the West side student rooms and bathrooms projected to be completed during the summer of 2013.. The new air conditioning system for East side rooms WILL be ready for Fall 2012. The air conditioning system on the West side WILL NOT be completed until Fall 2013 but will have window air conditioning units installed in each room. Work on the new entrance, lobby and lounges will proceed year-round with completion scheduled for late 2012.

Renovations of this magnitude will cause some inconvenience to residents in the building. Although every attempt will be made to keep construction noise and dirt to a minimum, there is no way to prevent it. Construction noise and dirt should be expected. Residents will access the building through a temporary entrance until the new front entrance is completed.

PROJECT UPDATE - 07/19/12:

Elwell Hall construction began in April of 2011 and was to be completed for the opening of school this fall of 2012. Because of the size and scope of the renovation, we knew this would be a very challenging project. This has been our largest residence hall renovation project to date with a lot of work to be accomplished over a 16 month construction schedule. The renovation to the east rooms and bathrooms was completed during the summer of 2012. A combination of several factors relating to site issues and work performance caused our project to fall behind schedule and it will not be completed until the summer of 2013.

What will be completed for fall move in is:

  • Both elevators will have been replaced and in full operation
  • All fire alarm, fire sprinkler and emergency systems will be in full operation
  • Elevator lobbies and lounges on floors 3-7 will be complete
  • The new air conditioning and heating system will be in operation on the east side of the building
  • The laundry room will be complete and in full operation
  • Sidewalks from the tri-level to the Elwell entrance will be complete

Because the renovation of the student rooms and bathrooms was postponed to the summer of 2013, we will supply the following to the west side rooms:

  • A window air conditioner will be installed in each room on the west side of Elwell
  • New beds, desk chairs and window roller shades will be installed
